Safe checks before you call
A few simple checks can save time:
- Clean the lint filter before every load.
- On condenser dryers, empty the water tank and clean the condenser unit as the manual describes.
- On vented dryers, check that the vent hose is not kinked or crushed.
If the dryer smells of burning or is unusually hot to the touch, stop it, unplug it and let it cool. Lint build-up is a fire risk.

Why is my dryer running but not heating?
Common causes are a failed heating element, a blown thermal fuse, a faulty thermostat or, on heat pump dryers, a fault in the heat pump system.
Why do my clothes take so long to dry?
A blocked lint filter, vent or condenser, overloading, or a faulty moisture sensor. Restricted airflow also makes the dryer work harder.
