Microwaves that will not heat, start or turn.
Microwave repair →Home appliances
Electric and gas ovens, cookers and ranges can fail in many small ways: a burnt-out element, a faulty thermostat or a hob burner that will not ignite. We inspect the appliance, find the fault and explain the repair before any work starts.
Tell us whether the appliance is electric or gas, and which of these you are seeing.
An inspection is the only reliable way to confirm the cause, but these are the parts we check most often:
On many ovens the clock or timer must be set before the oven will heat, so check that first after a power cut.
For microwaves, see microwave repair.

We inspect the equipment and test the relevant components to find the cause.
We explain what we found and what the work involves before any repair goes ahead.
The agreed work is carried out on the unit or system.
We run the equipment and check it is operating correctly before we finish.
A few simple checks can save time:
If you smell gas, do not switch lights or appliances on or off. Turn off the gas supply if it is safe to do so, open windows and leave the area, then contact your gas supplier or the emergency services. Do not use the cooker until it has been checked.
Common causes are a failed heating element, a faulty thermostat or sensor, a selector switch or control fault, or the clock not being set. Testing confirms which.
Wet or misaligned burner caps, blocked burner ports, a faulty igniter or spark generator, or a thermocouple fault on hobs with flame failure protection.
